WELCOME TO POETRY REVIVAL CLUB
The Genesis
About Us
The seed of the Poetry Revival Club took root when our founder returned from two deployments in Iraq. He came back from war and found himself lost among the world, surrounded by people he could not understand. He tried everything to find some sort of meaning & purpose to his experiences. Sitting in a creative writing class, he stumbled upon the poem "Song of Myself" by Walt Whitman, and like a thunderbolt erupting from the cosmos, a lightning-seed was planted in his earth of his body.
He went on to UC Berkeley and studied Cognitive Science, hoping to discover the secrets of the mind because his was falling apart faster than he could self-medicate and manage. Alcohol, therapy, and medication could not help him fix, nor repair his wounds.
That seed sprouted and the roots of poetry embraced all the fractured and fragmented pieces of himself, those pieces he tried so desperately to hide and throw away.
Now, he sits by that garden-fire started by the thunder from long ago, and devotes himself to sharing the miraculous gift that is poetry.
Poetry Revival Club is that garden. Poetry, at your service, is that gift.

Mission
Poetry Revival Club has one mission.
We believe poetry is a spiritual medicine.

Our philosophy mirrors that of the Japanese art of kintsugi -- where broken objects are repaired and mended with a precious metal lacquer.

This lacquer treats the hard breaks, fractures and fragments of an object as part of its story & beauty, versus discarding the item for its perceived flaws and imperfections.
Vision
Poetry Revival Club uses poetry like a precious metal lacquer, to help people notice not only the beauty in the world around them, but discover the beauty of the world inside them, that may have been broken, fractured or discarded.

Our vision is to revive the spirit of poetry and gift it to the people who may have forgotten their beauty and place in this world.
